Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is made up of three shifts, A, B, & C. Each shift is supervised by a Shift Commander (Lieutenant) and Assistant Shift Commander (Sergeant). Shifts are staffed with one Lieutenant, one Sergeant and four Patrol Officers. The officers work eight hour shifts: Day Shift - 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Afternoon Shift - 4:00 PM - 12:00 AM, Night Shift - 12:00 AM - 8:00 AM.

Bridgeport officers work on a 42-day rotating schedule, which includes 28 work days in a 6-week period. The department maintains a 8 full-rotation yearly schedule, which officers rotate from days to afternoons,afternoons to nights, and nights to days after the 6th Thursday of each rotation.

The Patrol Division is the backbone of the Bridgeport Police Department. Patrol includes some of the most highly trained, well-qualified, and self-motivated men and women in the law enforcement profession. Patrol handles a variety of calls, usually random and varying from violent crimes to parking complaints. The division responds to thousands of emergency 911 calls each year. The average patrol officer utilizes the latest technology to respond to the needs of the citizens and visitors in Bridgeport.
